By admin 17.05.2023

Join us for Weftival, our first weaving festival, at Whitchurch Silk Mill and discover more about the Mill’s weaving heritage. We have speakers and workshops across the weekend of 3 & 4 June from 10 am, with the last entry at 4 pm.

A weekend packed with all things weaving, come and experience Whitchurch Silk Mill as never before! There will be guided tours, demonstrations, workshops and guest speakers and plenty of entertainment for weaving fans of all ages.

Hampshire Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers and The Grange

Joining us for Weftival, our first weaving festival, will be members from the Hampshire Guild of Weavers Spinners and Dyers, with demonstrations of different types of weaving. There will be lots of offering plenty of chances to have a go. We will also be pleased to exhibit work made by members of the Grange at Bookham, who have used some of our silk to create embroidered works of art.

Pre-booking Workshops

Adults can choose from pre-bookable workshops each day of Weftival. These include Loom Speed Dating, Weave a Wall Hanging, Learn to Weave Basics (Frame Loom) and a Production tour of the Mill. The event will have fascinating talks from professional weaving and textile professionals. There will also be a Children’s tent with free weaving-themed activities for children to enjoy.

Your visit to this event will help raise funds to preserve the living weaving heritage at Whitchurch Silk Mill. Our craft was recently included in the ‘Heritage Crafts’ Red List of Endangered Crafts. The making of silk ribbons is a critically endangered craft and Silk Weaving is an endangered craft. Your visit helps support the development of the next generation of silk weavers and silk ribbon makers, helping to safeguard the production of silk products for the future.

Tickets are now available, and all tickets are valid for the full weekend. Please purchase via our website or at the venue. Annual passes are also accepted for this event.

In aid of Whitchurch Silk Mill. Whitchurch Silk Mill is a Registered Charity (No. 900621)
