The River Test’s Journey exhibition opens on Saturday 7th September 2019.
Painter Pete Gilbert and photographer Hugh Lohan, whose artistic collaboration began in 2006, continue their exploration of the River Test in this not-to-be-missed exhibition. Following their recent, sell-out, exhibition at Romsey’s Rum’s Egg Gallery: A Tribute to the River Test, their journey continues here.
Lisa Gale, Visitor Experience Manager, commented: “Whitchurch Silk Mill is sited upon and powered by the river, so it is a fitting home for this exhibition”. She added “alongside our recently updated visitor route which highlights the Mill’s relationship with the river, we are delighted to showcase these artists.”
Lohan’s black and white photography balances perfectly with the distinctive vitality and richness captured in Gilbert’s landscape paintings. Views of the river at Longstock, Leckford, Fullerton, Whitchurch, Tufton and more, showcase their journey. Many of the works are available to buy. With over thirty works on display pride of place will be given to “Reflections from the Frog” based on sketches of Frog Island, the home of the Mill.
The exhibition is free with Mill admission, and runs until Sunday, 24 November 2019.
