Shimmering Threads: Weaving ‘Solstice’

By admin 12.08.2026

In early 2026, we wove a stunning ombré cloth – ‘Solstice’. This silk was inspired by the setting sun and used an intricate warp pattern of blended colours.

Below, we explore the process that led to this remarkable silk.

If you have enjoyed exploring ‘Solstice’ today, why not visit Whitchurch Silk Mill to see this weaving heritage in action? You’re more than likely to see our weavers carrying out one of the steps in this process, using heritage techniques that have been passed down for generations.

Whitchurch Silk Mill is open Tuesday-Sunday, 10.30am-5pm. Plan your visit here.
