Celebrations for the Coronation

By admin 11.04.2023

On Saturday, 6 May 2023, King Charles III will be crowned at his coronation at Westminster Abbey in London. We will be closed on Saturday 6th May 2023, to allow our team to celebrate the occasion of King Charles III’s Coronation with their families.

An extra bank holiday across the UK will mark the occasion so we will open Monday, 8 May, from 10.30 am to 5 pm.

For the last few months, we have been weaving scarves to celebrate the Coronation – please take a look below. Plus, discover what’s happening at the Mill for King Charles III’s coronation and in the weeks leading up to it as the Mill will be participating in the Town’s coronation celebrations.

Launching ‘The Windsor’ Limited Edition Scarves to Celebrate the Coronation

Join us on Friday, 21 April, between 7 & 9 pm for the launch of a limited edition celebration silk woven to mark the coronation of His Majesty King Charles III. This will be a unique chance to learn about the design of ‘The Windsor’ and its production process

You will have the chance to get close to our warping and weaving machinery. You can meet the designers and weavers, and purchase one of the limited numbers of scarves made from this silk. If you would like more details and tickets, see our website to book.

The Treasury of Crowns

A Big Knit by our volunteers

Our heroic volunteers have knitted a ‘Treasury of Crowns’ to celebrate His Majesty King Charles III’s Coronation.

These mini bobble crowns could keep your boiled egg warm or provide a hiding place for your Cream Egg. Perhaps your favourite cuddly toys and action figures can wear them on the big day. They will be for sale for a suggested donation of £5 from Tuesday 18th April. For every crown we sell, we will add £5 to our funds to preserve living weaving heritage at the Mill.

All our volunteers deserve a “knithood” for donating over 100 crowns, we couldn’t do it without them.

The Big Help Out: a thank you to Our Town’s Community of Volunteers

With the support of Whitchurch Town Council, the Mill is hosting a Cream Tea for the Town’s community of volunteers. The Together Coalition and a wide range of partners across the United Kingdom have organised the Big Help Out. Our event will highlight the positive impact volunteering has on our Town.

Our Celebration Cream Tea will bring together the many Whitchurch volunteering groups. We hope to create a lasting legacy of working together from the Coronation Weekend.

We will invite volunteer community groups from the Town to apply for places.
