We are looking for a Trainee Weaver (HLF Heritage Skills Trainee) to join the Mill Team.

Salary: £18,000

Contract: 1 year

Hours: 37.5 hours to include weekend working

As a Trainee Weaver you will play a vital role in the achievement of the Whitchurch Silk Mill Trust's vision for the Mill to be a thriving living museum which weaves silk and delights all who visit.

The capital stage of the Heritage Lottery funded Preserving the Fabric project is nearing completion. It will revitalise the Mill, ensuring that:

• Traditional silk weaving continues

• Heritage skills are passed on

• The conservation requirements of its industrial and natural heritage are met sensitively

It will also significantly improve the visitor experience, the programme for learning, engagement with the people of Hampshire and commercial opportunities, all of which underpin long-term sustainability.

The Heritage Skills Trainee post will provide paid employment and training in our specialist field of making silk cloth on Victorian and early-twentieth century machinery.

What you will receive

• a full time, paid placement at our Grade 2* listed Georgian silk mill

• training in the operation of Grade Two* listed Silk Mill, including winding, warping, weaving and the operation of a visitor attraction

• time to study

• work alongside the Senior Weaver, Mill Engineer and the Mill team

• learn about all aspects of silk production on our historic machinery

• develop skills, such as guiding and working in a visitor attraction
